Mike Presutti is a safety and risk professional and business owner working on some of the largest most complex projects in the United States. He teaches at several universities, including Rutgers University School of Public Health where he prepares candidates to become OSHA authorized trainers in both the construction and general industries for the Region 2 OSHA Educational Center. A prolific writer, lecturer and subject matter expert, he is often selected to create intricate code-based policies, procedures and curricula for upper-tier design and construction firms, facility managers, major utilities and municipalities. Consolidated Edison, the fourth largest utility in the United States often utilizes his expertise to write public safety procedures and the City of New York’s Department of Buildings and Board of Education’s School Construction Authority (SCA) contracts Mike to write citywide training course requirements of local law and train safety inspectors, administrative staff and private contractors respectively.
Stirred by the horrific massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut in 2012, and pressed further by the increased rate of shootings, Mike applied his knowledge of life safety laws and codes, occupational standards and building management systems to create the first United States’ and internationally patented approach to active shooter events. This holistic approach, makes defending against active shooter compliant with fire codes, occupational safety standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The system acts as a unified response to intruders and active shooters and is a highly visible deterrent to such acts. It easily integrates into building management system (BMS) and can simultaneously fulfil fire safety requirements.
